Dark fiber networks and optics

The network infrastructure

All across Paris and its Metropolitan region, SIPARTECH has cabled a dark fiber network over 270 kilometers long bundled into distinct networks which provide the greatest possible security for various interconnected Data Centers :

  • certain segments are located in the public infrastructure works
  • others follow the sewage lines of Paris

The different segments are composed of cables consisting of 432 fibers each which meet the latest standards in terms of security and protection.

This network has more than 130 connection points distributed across Paris and the immediate periphery.

The cables

a. Classic cables

These cables are composed of around one hundred optical fibers each and are distributed in the public infrastructure works.

b. Underground cables

Heavily armored, these cables are designed for underground passages and are sheathed in robust fire-resistant materials, reserved for sewage lines.

Fiber optic

The selected cables are composed of single mode optic fibers with a low OH peak.

These optical fibers permit Wavelength Division Multiplexing which affords the following advantages :

  • Reduced transmittance loss, optimized for the 1260-1625 nm bandwidths (O,E,S,C and L)
  • double-coated acrylate to ensure a longer lifetime
  • PMD and reduced dispersion which guarantees adaptability to new network standards, specifically increased data transport (10 and 40 Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, SDH, DWDM and CWDM) over long distances.
  • Optimal geometry which provides for reduced losses at splices.

The characteristics of these optic fibers are an improvement over those required by G.652 D recommendations.

Standards

The optical fibers and cables used by SIPARTECH comply with the following standards :

  • ITU-T G.652 D
  • ISO/IEC 11801
  • CEI 60793-1-1 à 5
  • CEI 60793-2
  • CEI 60794-1-1
  • CEI 60794-1-2
  • CEI 60794-2
  • CEI 60794-3
  • CEI 60332-3-24
